Nelleke Ponsteen is fascinated by human beings and their facial expressions and facial expressions. It is often more telling than what words tell.
She captures this fascination in figurative drawings, mostly using herself as a model.
The face and body are often present in an unusual proportion. A recurring theme in her work is the duality of strength and vulnerability.
The drawings are generally done in a larger format (about 70 x 90 cm). She also makes drawings and collages in a small format. These are often a preliminary study and/or sketch for the larger drawing, but sometimes stand alone.
