Nov. 9 and 10, Jaap Slaa exhibits at the gallery.
Painting, architecture and poetry
Already while studying at the Academy of Architecture, Jaap Slaa discovered the joy of painting, free expression.
Jaap has been working as an architect for about 30 years and has now completed a large number of different structures. Preconditions from the client, the environment or the legislator always determine the boundaries within which can be designed.
As Jaap began to miss free expression more and more, he has been painting seriously for several years. He prefers to apply acrylic paint to large canvases, as well as to wooden panels or wood blocks. His style is mostly abstract. It is work that exploits the freedom of color and form. There are often references to architecture. The paintings are built up layer by layer with the process determining the final result.
His love of poetry is reflected in the titles of the works.
