My conceptual art is created in the studio.

What I create I show in the gallery,

often along with work by colleagues.

ATELIER

Oppression, oppression and unfreedom are recurring themes in my work.

What does it do to you when you can’t be who you are because of conformism or social pressure? I know from experience how difficult that can be. How you can struggle to be able to be yourself, to follow your own path.

In my work I look for recognition of this. I want to show and feel how unpleasant and intense it can be. Recognition can also give comfort or strength.

My sculptures, made from prints of my body (parts), are often not smoothly finished and have frayed edges.

For me, that symbolizes the rawness of the feelings represented.

A special friend summed up my work:

Trapped growth needs space, and boldness. Cross-border.

Haiku, Katrien Ruitenburg

You can also eat my work 😉 and wear it.

GALLERY

Open Studio Insight

Every 2nd Saturday of the month, 6 artists in Nunspeet and Elspeet open their studios and/or galleries.

I am usually open on Sundays during that weekend as well, as I invite a colleague to exhibit with me in my gallery.

It is always a treat to see how the combination of our work produces surprises.

I enjoy it when the works reinforce each other.

Sometimes by sanding,

another time by the color combinations,

or by the parallels in material use or theme.

Exhibitors in the gallery:

March 8 and 9 Willemien van Gurp from Deventer with drawings
April 12 and 13 Willy van der Beek from Epe with paintings
14 and 15 June Arjan Roos from Hekelingen with photography
12 and 13 July Hanneke van Rijnsoever from Lage Zwaluwe with felt and concrete
13 and 14 September Marisja van Weegberg from Lelystad with drawings
8 and 9 November in consultation
13 and 14 December Hannah Blom from Amersfoort with spatial work

In May and October, I would like to use the gallery itself to show new work and installations. And in Aug I’m keeping vacation.

Participating artists Open Studio Insight:

  • Harmke Zwep, ceramics
  • Gerri Raap, paper art
  • Emmie Vos, stained glass and Tiffany
  • Guill Hombergen, painting
  • Margot Bechschebe, textile art
  • Ingrid Slaa: spatial work

Open during studio days

Between exhibition weekends, I like to use the gallery for my own work.

To play and build new installations.

To make new combinations and see if the story is right.

SELL

Much of my work and that of my guest artists is for sale during the open days.

It is nice to be able to see the work in real life.

Then you will have a better idea of the dimensions and material.

And you can better experience what it does to you.

If you’re in the area, just stop by.

And otherwise, you can always make an appointment.
