April 23 and 24, 2022 Rietje Bakker exhibited at the gallery.
Rietje Bakker mostly paints figuratively, but there is also a certain abstraction in many of her paintings. She gets her inspiration from her walks through nature and what she hears in the news. But also what touches her in her faith and her passion for justice can form a basis for a painting.
She usually does not yet have a concrete idea of what the painting will look like. She is often guided by what happens during the painting process. In addition to acrylic paint, Reed uses paper, textiles, gold leaf, raffia and flax. Layer by layer, she uses this to build her work. This creates paintings that invite you to look just a little further than the first impression. Is there another layer to be discovered in the image you are looking at?
